Summerland Steam edge Kelowna Chiefs

KELOWNA – Penalties took their toll on the Kelowna Chiefs as they suffered a loss on home ice Saturday night.

The Chiefs welcomed the Summerland Steam, looking to extract some revenge after a loss just last week to the team.

Things didn’t go as well as Kelowna had hoped, losing 4 – 3.

In the first period, Kienan Scott started things off for the Steam at 6:06.  The lead didn’t last long as Chiefs Captain Jordan Salahor scored a shorthanded goal only minutes later.

The Steam dominated the second period, scoring two power play goals as well as a shorthanded one to take a 4 – 1 lead.

Trailing in the third, the Chiefs fought back as Kyle Hazelwood netted his second of the season off a pass from Matthew Naka and Nicholas Gnazdowsky.  With only minutes left, Salahor scored his second of the night to lessen the gap and it looked like the Chiefs might be able to tie things up.

Unfortunately the Steam held on for a 4 – 3 win.  Kelowna racked up 26 minutes worth of penalties compared to just 4 minutes by the Steam.

The game marked the home ice debut of the Chiefs newest defenceman, Blake Arcuri.  The 20-year joined the team earlier this week from the Fernie Ghostriders.

The Kelowna Chiefs are back in action on Friday, January 31st as they welcome the Osoyoos Coyotes to Rutland Arena.
