Penticton will be the star in movie set to begin production in September
A new film shoot is getting underway in Penticton following the easing of COVID-19 restrictions that temporarily shut down the industry in the Okanagan.
Suitcase Charlie films announced today, July 14, the filming of Change of Pace, an all-Canadian movie set and filmed in Penticton.
Producer and director Shel Piercy says the pandemic brought the film industry to a halt, but calls Change of Pace a vision for film and TV as the world tries to determine a new normal in the months ahead.
“This is a homegrown production that taps into the enormous pools of local artistic and technical talent, while showcasing the abundant beauty and charming character of communities like Penticton,” Piercy says in a media release.
Change of Pace is a coming-of-age film that pays homage to the 1980s with a quirky and relatable cast of characters.
The production is inspired by an hour-long super-8 film shot by Suitcase Charlie films owner Graham Fraser and Mike Drinkwater during their final year of high school in 1980, the release states.
The film will highlight local iconic landmarks such as the S.S. Sicamous, the Penticton Vees at the South Okanagan Events Centre and Penticton Secondary School.
The production office opens Aug. 10 with a 15-day shoot beginning on Sept. 14. Producers estimate 70 per cent of the film’s cast and 60 per cent of its crew will be drawn from resources already present in the Okanagan.
