Fire in Mission Creek Regional Park snuffed out quickly

Kelowna Fire Department made quick work of a fire in Mission Creek Regional Park but it was a reminder that despite a slow start to the summer, wildfire season is here.

The fire department received numerous 911 calls around 7:45 p.m., reporting smoke coming from an area in Mission Creek Regional Park close to Hall Road.

"The first arriving officer found a Rank 2 to 3 fire burning in the woods, approximately 60-feet x 80-feet in size and 100 meters into the park off the roadway," Dennis Miller, Platoon Captain said.

"The fire was quickly knocked down by crews. It was contained, extinguished and the perimeter has been guarded."

The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time.

Kelowna Fire responded with two engines, command vehicle, two bush trucks and a water tender along with 13 personnel to the incident.
