City manager leaving Penticton

PENTICTON – Penticton is losing its controversial city manager.

Annette Antoniak announced today she will be leaving the City of Penticton later this month.

Antoniak has been with the city since 2010, joining the city in time for implementation of the core review.

She was also instrumental moving the city forward with the first downtown revitalization and waterfront development projects undertaken in the city in 30 years.

Controversy swirled last year after the city demanded apologies from Penticton resident Elvena Slump over letters to the editor she wrote, criticizing city hall and Antoniak.

Slump referred to her as "an unelected power broker who was using illegal in camera meetings to bully and abuse members of council."

Former Councillor John Vassilaki said at the time council did not know of the letter written to Slump, or who authorized it.

Vassilaki said he had no comment to make on Antoniak's departure from the city.

Her final day is scheduled for Feb. 16. She plans to take on a Chief Executive Officer position in a corporation, the name of which will be announced at a later date.

Mayor Jakubeit said the city plans an extensive search to find the next Chief Administrative Officer.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
