North Okanagan fire training centre temporarily closes due to possible COVID-19 exposure

A North Okanagan fire training centre has temporarily closed its doors due to potential COVID-19 exposure, says Vernon's fire chief. 

Vernon fire chief David Lind said the Intermunicipal Fire Training Centre closed last night, July 25 due to a possible exposure.

"We've temporarily suspended activity… We're following all the health and safety protocols as established by the Interior Health Authority," he said.

"That's all the information we have right now."

This week a Vernon Starbucks, located on Anderson Way, also closed its doors as two of its employees await COVID-19 test results.

In recent weeks, Kelowna has been the epicentre of a vast number of new cases in B.C., stemming from Canada Day private parties and gatherings.

Interior Health reported that 86 B.C. residents are linked to the recent events in Kelowna, with 74 of those living in the Interior Health region, seven in the Fraser Health region and five in Vancouver Coastal.

The total number of cases of COVID-19 in the Interior Health Authority to 319, according to a Ministry of Health media release.
