Flood damage closes clinic, businesses in Sahali

Localized flooding earlier this week resulted in the closure of the Kamloops Urgent Care Clinic as well as two other businesses along a strip mall on the north side of Superstore in Lower Sahali.

A sign outside the door of the private clinic has been modified to include Friday as a closure day. It originally stated the clinic would be closed just Wednesday and Thursday due to flooding. A smaller sign below indicates the Travel Medicine and Vaccination Centre (TMVC) will be open for travel medicine only. According to the TMVC head office the part of the office housing the vaccination centre – which is rented from the clinic – is operational and will be conducting business as usual.

The other two businesses in the strip – Andrena's Book Company and Hu Ahyi Bubble Tea Place – were both closed on Friday as crews worked to pack up inventory and begin cleaning up after the flood. In the clinic, crews had already removed much of the damaged drywall as well as ceiling tiles and other materials destroyed by Tuesday night's flood.

While the exact length of the closure is not known, administrators at Royal Inland Hospital have been preparing for an influx at the emergency room by bolstering staff on an as-needed basis. Two other clinics in Kamloops – Summit Medical and North Shore Treatment – were listed on the window of the flooded clinic as alternative options for those requiring walk-in care.

No one from the clinic was available to speak about the cause of the flooding.
