Rail bridges aren’t to be used for diving boards, Barrier RCMP warns

Police in Barriere want parents to tell their kids that rail bridges make poor diving boards.

Barriere RCMP has received a number of calls regarding individuals using the bridge to jump into the North Thompson River, according to an RCMP release.

This activity can lead to delays and stoppages of the rail system, and require RCMP officers to attend and clear the tracks.

Pedestrians on the bridge is also a source of stress for railway engineers and operators approaching the bridge who may be unable to stop in time.

Police are reminding residents that all train tracks are private property, and it is an offence to be on the tracks except while crossing at a designated area.

Offenders may be subject to fines and-or arrest.
