Almost 25,000 pounds of junk was hauled from Okanagan forests last weekend

The Okanagan Forest Task Force added 23,600 pounds to the tonnes of garbage it’s already removed from Okanagan forests.

Saturday’s cleanup along Beaver Lake Road took 13,600 pounds of metal out of the forest, including three burnt vehicles. Another 10,000 pounds of garbage was picked up as well.

“The volunteer turnout was amazing and a big reason why the cleanup was so successful,” Kane Blake, the task force’s founder, said in a news release.

Some of the cleanup was live-streamed and a video by Robin Bloch was made of their efforts.

“Since the creation of the Okanagan Forest Task Force in 2016, the group has removed over 272,702 pounds of illegally dumped garbage in the Okanagan backcountry,” the news release states.

Blake is organizing another cleanup in a different area. Details can be seen on the Okanagan Forest Task Force Facebook page here.

The video can be seen here.
