Still no sign of Alberta man swept away in Kootenay River

After more than ten days of searching the Kootenay River, RCMP and search and rescue teams have still not found a trace of a missing 43-year-old Edmonton man.

Search and rescue teams from Cranbrook, Kimberly, Golden, Sparwood and Creston searched by water, ground and air. The RCMP Underwater Recovery Team has also been involved in the search for the man who is presumed to be drowned.

Police believed the man was swept away in the river while he was trying to save his dog on July 30.

The release from the RCMP states over the weekend there were 20 swift water rescue technicians, four jet boats, two rafts, underwater cameras, a search dog and a helicopter used in the search for the missing man.

"Despite the added search efforts this past weekend in B.C.’s Columbia Valley, the Alberta man remains missing at this time," says Cpl. Jesse O’Donaghey, spokesperson for the B.C. RCMP Southeast District in a media release. "It doesn’t mean the search is over, as search officials will continue to monitor the water and reassess as conditions allow."

The police are continuing to investigate.
