Annual non-profit race cancelled after 35 years
KELOWNA – A 35-year-old racing tradition in Kelowna has run its course.
The annual Ski2Sea race is an annual non-profit relay event where teams and individuals alternate biking, skiing, kayaking and running 95 km from Big White to City Park. According to their website the reasons the race has been cancelled are to do with rising expenses and declining participation.
“It is with a heavy heart that we announce the end of the Re/Max Ski2Sea Race, hosted in Kelowna since 1980,” the website says. “As a non-profit, volunteer organization, the feasibility of the race must be looked at. This is a territorially complicated race as it spans the distance of Big White to City Park. There is a high degree of logistics to keeping all the participants safe and the community inconvenienced as little as possible.”
