No break from Kamloops heat wave until mid week

Following a sweltering weekend in Kamloops, temperatures are expected to begin easing gradually, starting today, with a possibility of showers by the end of the week.

The next three days should continue to be sunny and hot, however. A heat warning continues to be in effect today for Kamloops.

Environment Canada says it should be sunny this morning before a mix of sun and cloud early in the afternoon, with southwest winds at 30 km/h gusting to 50 near noon.

Today’s high should reach 37 C with a low of 16 C tonight.

Tuesday is expected to be a few degrees cooler with a high of 34 C under sunny skies and a low of 16 C overnight.

Wednesday’s high should reach 33 C, again under sunny skies.

Clouds are expected to begin rolling in on Thursday as Thursday’s high reaches 29 C, followed by an overnight low of 16 C.

Showers are expected Friday, along with a high of 25 C and a low of 16 C.

The weekend is looking seasonal at this point, with a mix of sun and cloud and highs of 27 C and 28 C for Saturday and Sunday.

Kamloops’ normal high and low for this time of year is 28 C and 13 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
