Nearly 4,000 properties on evacuation alert as Penticton fire grows to 500 ha

The City of Penticton has issued an evacuation alert for southeast portions of the city due to the spreading Mount Christie wildfire as it has grown to 500 hectares.

The alert extends to 3,669 properties in the south east part of the city, and includes properties within the following street boundaries.
•    Lakeside Rd.
•    South Main
•    Main Street
•    Industrial/Okanagan Avenue
•    Alison St.
•    Penticton Creek
•    Syer Rd.

The city is working with the regional district and B.C. Wildfire to assess the situation. The alert has been issued to prepare residents, businesses and visitors to evacuate their premises or property in the event an evacuation order is issued.

The Regional District of Okanagan Similkameen also issued an evacuation alert for Upper Carmi properties around 9 p.m. tonight, Aug. 18.

The alert includes 116 addresses in the Carmi area and one residence north of Heritage Hills on Eastside Road.
