Silverbacks dump West Kelowna Warriors

SALMON ARM – The Salmon Arm Silverbacks took advantage of a four point swing game and defeated the West Kelowna Warriors 4-1 on Friday night at the Shaw Center.

A scoreless first period wasn't without some great chances for the Warriors as they hit two crossbars and a goal post in the frame.

Kylar Hope had a break away slap shot stopped by Angus Redmond in the first five minutes and Nick Rutigliano hammered a one-timer off the bar on the man advantage later in the period.

The Silverbacks got on the board at 1:42 of the second period when Josh Laframboise poked one over the line on a delayed penalty.

The Warriors questioned the officials as to why the whistle wasn't blown after a Stephen Heslop save but were told there wasn't possession had by Heslop to get a whistle.

Ross Heidt would make it 2-0 at 8:25 when he took advantage of a long shift by the Warriors unit on the ice. The high wrister was sent through a screen and Heslop couldn't see it.

In the third period, the Silverbacks Taro Hirose deflected a Chase Priskie shot past Heslop with a beautiful tip in that bounced through traffic and in.

At 14:01, with the Warriors on the power-play, Nick Rutigliano finally scored his BCHL goal with a slap shot from the point as it bounced off a Silverback player in front.

Salmon Arm out shot West Kelowna 35-30.
