For folks who use B.C. Transit to get around, keeping a mask with them is going to be essential for the foreseeable future.
Starting on Monday, riders will need to wear a face covering during their travels. This move will take effect for all B.C. Transit buses throughout the province.
The policy is not mandatory for children under the age of five and for people who can’t wear a mask due to health reasons.
A release from B.C. Transit states customers have indicated they'd be more comfortable if masks were made mandatory. The decision to move ahead with the policy comes from the advice of Provincial Health Officer Dr. Bonnie Henry, who stressed the importance of wearing masks when physical distancing is not possible, such as on transit.
Even though the face coverings are mandatory, the policy will be implemented as an “educational step” and there will be no enforcement.
A release from B.C. Transit says customers have been made aware of the change through promotion and signage.
