RCMP arrest armed robbery suspect

Police have tracked down the suspect of an armed robbery after following up on the license plate of his getaway vehicle.

On April 28, at about 8 p.m., a man described as having a scruffy beard and moustache entered the Shell gas station at 700 George Street.

"The male suspect entered the store, approached the clerk to purchase cigarettes, and when the register was open, the suspect brandished a large knife and demanded money," RCMP spokesperson Gord Molendyk said.

While the clerk ran to back of the store, the suspect grabbed the register and made off with an undisclosed amount of cash.

When the clerk saw the suspect leave he turned and followed him outside the store.

He watched the suspect climb into the passenger side of a Black Dodge pick-up, and was able to get a plate number.

Officers followed up on the plate and were able to locate the owner of the vehicle.

The truck had been loaned out to a friend.

"The officers were able to locate the friend and the suspect matching the description at a house in Enderby," Molendyk said. "A knife believed to be the one used was located by our officers in the back of the truck."

A 33-year-old man with an address of Sexsmith Alberta is expected to appear in Salmon Arm Provincial court later today.
