Merritt man wins $40K on Keno ticket

A Merritt resident has won big on Keno, scooping up more than $40,000 with a winning ticket.

Joseph Major won the July 22 Keno and Keno Bonus Ball draw leaving him $40,030 better off.

According to a media release from B.C. Lottery Corporation, Major bought the winning ticket at the Coldwater Hotel Pub in Merritt and was at Walmart when he decided to check his ticket.

"I thought I had just won $20,000,” Major said in the release. "It surprised both myself and the lady at Walmart when the $40,000 came up. I couldn’t believe it."

Major plans to put his winnings towards purchasing a horse and a new truck.

Ben Bulmer

After a decade of globetrotting, U.K. native Ben Bulmer ended up settling in Canada in 2009. Calling Vancouver home he headed back to school and studied journalism at Langara College. From there he headed to Ottawa before winding up in a small anglophone village in Quebec, where he worked for three years at a feisty English language newspaper. Ben is always on the hunt for a good story, an interesting tale and to dig up what really matters to the community.
