‘Suspicious’ Holiday Park fire destroys building, no injuries

An early morning fire at the Holiday Park RV and Condo Resort has left a neighbourhood restaurant and store significantly damaged.

Kelowna fire department received a call 4:45 a.m. Sept. 7 of a Structure Fire in the 400 block of Commonwealth Road in Kelowna.

"Lake Country units were the first to arrive on scene and reported a two-storey structure with fire showing from the main floor interior and the roof of the Bravo side of the building," Tim Light, Platoon Captain of the Kelowna Fire Department said in a press release.

"With the extensive involvement of the fire it was deemed to be too dangerous to attempt an interior attack. A defensive attack was implemented using an elevated water tower and ground handlines. Fire crews are still on scene mopping up and dealing with hotspots."

The fire was in the Italian Kitchen building, and there were no injuries. Light added that no one was displaced by the fire.

Light said the fire is deemed suspicious at this time and RCMP will be the lead investigators, any information regarding the investigation will come from the RCMP.

Between Lake Country and Kelowna fire departments there were six fire engines on scene and a complement of support vehicles and crews.
