Hot weather expected in the Okanagan this week

If you enjoyed the past weekend’s hot and sunny weather, get ready to enjoy more of the same. There’s a week of more summer weather coming up, even though the Labour Day weekend is over and school is back in session.

The valley is going to see more sunshine and temperatures several degrees above seasonal norms as we move into the middle of September.

The Weather Network reports a different weather situation on the prairies, where many residents faced a morning frost today.

Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for the Okanagan, warning of maximum daily temperatures of five to 10 degrees above seasonal tomorrow and Thursday.

It should be sunny today, Sept. 8, with a high of 26 Celsius and clear skies overnight with a low of 9 C.

Wednesday should be sunny with north winds at 20 km/h in the afternoon. It should reach 28 C on Wednesday with an overnight low of 11 C.

Thursday and Friday should see more sun and highs of 30 C and 29 C, respectively, along with lows of 12 C and 13 C, respectively.

Saturday and Sunday look promising at this point, with sunshine and a high of 29 C on Saturday, and a mix of sun and clouds and a high of 27 C on Sunday.

Monday should see a sun and cloud mix and a high of 25 C.

Normal temperatures this time of year in the Okanagan are highs of 21 C and lows of 8 C.

I have been looking for news in the South Okanagan - SImilkameen for 20 years, having turned a part time lifelong interest into a full time profession. After five years publishing a local newsletter, several years working as a correspondent / stringer for several local newspapers and seven years as editor of a Similkameen weekly newspaper, I joined iNFOnews.ca in 2014. My goal in the news industry has always been to deliver accurate and interesting articles about local people and places. My interest in the profession is life long - from my earliest memories of grade school, I have enjoyed writing.
As an airborne geophysical surveyor I travelled extensively around the globe, conducting helicopter borne mineral surveys.
I also spent several years at an Okanagan Falls based lumber mill, producing glued-wood laminated products.
As a member of the Kaleden community, I have been involved in the Kaleden Volunteer Fire Department for 22 years, and also serve as a trustee on the Kaleden Irrigation District board.
I am currently married to my wife Judy, of 26 years. We are empty-nesters who enjoy living in Kaleden with our Welsh Terrier, Angus, and cat, Tibbs.
Our two daughters, Meagan and Hayley, reside in Richmond and Victoria, respectively.
