B.C. follows record-setting day for COVID-19 cases with another 132

After a record-setting 139 new COVID-19 cases in B.C. yesterday, Sept. 10, today’s numbers are just about as bad at 132, three of which are in the Interior Health region.

That brings the province’s total to 6,962 cases and the Interior to 465.

The good news is that there have been no new deaths, leaving 213 B.C. residents dead from the virus.

“We know COVID-19 has not been without challenge and loss,” Health Minister Adrian Dix and Provincial Health Officer Bonnie Henry said in a joint statement. “But we are working each day to find the balance of keeping new cases low and slow to protect those who are most vulnerable, while keeping our communities going."

The cases fall mostly in the Lower Mainland, with 3,600 in the Fraser Health region and 2,419 in Vancouver Coastal. There have been 190 positive cases on Vancouver Island, 204 in the North and 84 non-residents.

There are 1,461 active cases with a further 3,198 people who are under active public health monitoring and 5,273 people who have recovered.

Forty-nine people are in hospital, 10 of whom are in intensive care.

"There are thousands upon thousands of people across British Columbia who are doing their part to protect our province,” the release states. "We have demonstrated kindness and compassion in the face of adversity and challenge, and this resilience will give us the strength for what lies ahead. Let's continue to stand strong against our common foe that is COVID-19.”
