Smoky skies should begin to clear in Kamloops with showers, cooler temperatures this weekend

It’s supposed to be sunny in Kamloops today, but with air quality meteorologists calling for widespread smoke to return, the sun may be fleeting, if seen at all.

Smoke from multiple wildfires in California, Oregon, and Washington State spread throughout the province and east across Canada this week, but the worst of it remains in British Columbia, particularly on the south coast and southern interior.

According to The Weather Network, the smoke is now causing poor air quality conditions in several provinces.

In Kamloops today, Sept. 17, Environment Canada is calling for sunny skies but with smoky conditions and winds east at 20 km/h this afternoon, with an expected high of 27 C and a low of 14 C.

A special air quality statement has been issued for the South Thompson.

We’re going to see the temperature start to drop on Friday, with a mix of sun and cloud, a 40 per cent chance of afternoon showers and more widespread smoke expected.

Friday should see a high of 25 C and a low of 15 C anticipated.

On Saturday, there is a 40 per cent chance of showers along with a mix of sun and cloud, with Saturday’s high at 21 C and the overnight low at 13 C.

It’s expected the smoke should lessen considerably with the changing weather conditions.

A mix of sun and cloud is also expected Sunday with a high of 23 C and a low of 10 C.

Monday and Tuesday look like they’ll also bring a mix of sun and cloud, with highs both days of 22 C.

Kamloops's normal daily high and low is 21 C and 8 C at this time of year.
