Online all candidates forum to be hosted by TRU social work students

If you're wondering who to vote for in the upcoming provincial election, you may want to tune in to an all candidates forum next month being organized by some students at Thompson Rivers University.

TRU students in the social work and human services programs are hosting an online forum where all candidates are invited to share their campaign platforms. 

“This forum will help to inform students and other voters about important and pressing social issues the successful candidates will have to address," social work student Megan Dalgleish said in a media release.

Premier John Horgan called the snap election on Sept. 21.

So far only two candidates have confirmed they are running in the Oct. 24 election, Kamloops-South Thompson Liberal MLA Todd Stone and his Kamloops-North Thompson Liberal counterpart Peter Milobar.

Students are working with the B.C. Association of Social Workers will host the online forum at 3 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6.

"One only needs to look around Kamloops to know that mental health, substance use, homelessness and poverty are significant issues and that there are insufficient resources available to meet the demand," social work student Rachel Knuttila said in the release. "We want to know what the candidates will do about these and other social issues if elected."
