Hang on to your hat: More strong, gusty winds expected today in Okanagan, Kamloops

For the second time in a week, Kamloops and Okanagan residents are being advised to put away their lawn furniture and other moveable items as strong wind gusts make their way through the region.

Environment Canada meteorologist Terri Lang says a trough of low pressure is approaching the southern Interior with strong winds in advance of the system.

Lang says to expect southerly to southeasterly winds at 60 km/h, gusting to 70, today, Sept. 25, especially in the South Okanagan.

The wind should shift to southwesterly direction this afternoon, but gusts are expected to stay strong at 50 to 60 km/h before becoming light later this evening.

Kamloops should see easterly winds shifting west around noon, with gusts up to 60 km/h.

“We are expecting some unsettled weather with the passage of this trough, with showers and the threat of a thundershower as well,” Lang says.

Kamloops and the Okanagan experienced a previous round of strong wind gusts on Wednesday, followed by heavy rains that overwhelmed Kelowna's storm drains.
