Two-time All-Pro guard Joe Thuney agrees to 2-year, $35 million extension with Bears

LAKE FOREST, Ill. (AP) — Two-time All-Pro guard Joe Thuney and the Chicago Bears have agreed to a two-year, $35 million contract extension, agent Mike McCartney announced on Tuesday.
The extension is for $17.5 million per season. Thuney is due $51 million over the next three years with $33.5 million guaranteed, McCartney said.
General manager manager Ryan Poles said last month he hoped to get a deal done. Thuney was entering the final season of a five-year, $80 million deal he signed with Kansas City.
The Bears acquired the 32-year-old Thuney from the Chiefs in a trade in March, one of several moves they made to overhaul a shaky offensive line and give Caleb Williams the protection he needs. The quarterback was sacked a franchise-record and league-leading 68 times after being drafted with the No. 1 overall pick last year. The Bears hope that number goes down in a big way after reinforcing the line and hiring coach Ben Johnson.
An All-Pro the past two years, Thuney is entering his 10th season. He played on two Super Bowl champions in New England and two more in Kansas City.
Besides landing Thuney, the Bears acquired guard Jonah Jackson from the Los Angeles Rams. They also signed center Drew Dalman and drafted Boston College tackle Ozzy Trapilo in the second round.
Chicago finished last in the NFC North at 5-12 last season. The Bears lost 10 straight games and fired former coach Matt Eberflus following a Thanksgiving Day loss at Detroit.
