B.C. NDP acclaim candidate for Kamloops-North Thompson
A Kamloops city councillor will be the B.C. NDP’s candidate in Kamloops-North Thompson in the upcoming provincial election.
Sadie Hunter was acclaimed as the party’s candidate. She’ll be up against Liberal incumbent Peter Milobar.
“Governments should provide services for people who need them, and we can’t afford to have those services cut back,” Hunter said.
“The B.C. NDP government has been very supportive of Kamloops – the new patient tower coming at Royal Inland Hospital and the investments at (Thompson Rivers University) were both long overdue,” she said. “I’m eager to continue the work of delivering on what the people of Kamloops-North Thompson need.”
Fellow council member Dale Bass pledged her support for Hunter today, Sept. 28, at press conference in MacDonald Park.
Hunter addressed her own experience with healthcare, and why it's a priority moving forward.
"I also understand the need for quality, accessible healthcare as someone with a disability and a child with a chronic illness," she said. "I spent years navigating these systems and advocating for my own health and the health of my family."
Hunter has been a resident of Kamloops for 20 years, and served on city council for two. She has a Masters degree in environmental science, an undergraduate degree in journalism and ecology.
The provincial election is Oct. 24.
