B.C. NDP select candidate to run in Kelowna West

Spring Hawes, a former Invermere town councillor and now a mortgage broker in the Okanagan, has been appointed by the B.C. NDP to run for election in the riding of Kelowna West.

A brief biography of Hawes says she spent two terms on Invermere council and three years as a board director for Interior Health as well as owning and managing several commercial properties.

She injured her spine in a mountain bike accident 15 years ago and uses a wheelchair, according to a media release.

She’s working on her Bachelor of Arts in English degree at Athabasca University and is an advocate for equality of women, people with disabilities and inclusion of marginalized people. She also sits on various volunteer boards.

She will be running against incumbent Liberal Ben Stewart in the Oct. 24 provincial election.
