Kamloops Catfish hooked on breach charges

KAMLOOPS – A man with a history of assuming different identities online to harass people has been arrested again for allegedly breaching a court order to stay off Facebook.

Judge Roy Dickey released George Herbert Douglas, born 1975, on bail Tuesday afternoon after he was arrested for breaching a condition of his conditional sentence. Last June, Douglas was found guilty of mischief and criminal harassment for using a fake social media persona—Chrissy Last—to harass his ex-girlfriends. The process, known colloquially as 'catfishing,' is personifying a false online character for an ulterior motive.

Douglas was placed on a one-year house arrest which banned him from accessing social media. In October, an associate of Douglas reported him to the RCMP for accessing Facebook. She also told police she received several threatening messages on Facebook messenger from a profile with the name Greg Matters, but was unsure if it was Douglas or her ex-boyfriend.

Douglas is due in court February 19 for an arraignment hearing.
