iN PHOTOS: Six stunning waterfalls to see in Kamloops, Okanagan

Rivers are starting to reach their peak of depth and flow in Kamloops and the Okanagan and it’s creating some stunning waterfalls.

Kelowna outdoor enthusiast Josh Hill runs a club called Hike The Okanagan whose members have been chasing a few falls in recent weeks.

“The waterfalls are really full now and there are some really pretty ones,” he said. “Water temperatures are amicable for swimming in too.”

Some waterfalls will be a mere trickle by the end of a hot dry summer, so now is a great time to view them.

Here are six falls to check out in the Thompson-Okanagan region.

Jamieson Creek Falls

North of Kamloops, you’ll find Jamieson Creek Falls. It’s a great area to hike throughout all seasons. According to local hiking groups, it takes approximately 20 to 30 minutes to get to the falls from the start of the path. Not only is it a short drive from the City, the trail leading to the falls is almost all flat.

To get there, take Westsyde Road for 20 kilometres, take a left on Jamieson Creek Main Haul Road and then continue on this road for approximately 13 kilometres.

Whitecroft Falls

If you’re travelling towards Sun Peaks in the Kamloops area make sure to make a stop at Whitecroft Falls. Not only is this trail suitable for dogs, Hike Kamloops also ranks the trail to get to the falls as low difficulty. It’s a stunning waterfall hidden on the way to Sun Peaks and only takes approximately 30 minutes to get to the falls from the head of the trail.

To get there, get on Highway 5 heading towards Sun Peaks. Turn onto Old Highway 5, then take the first left onto Tod Mountain Road. Continue on this road until you get to the community of Whitecroft.

Mill Creek Falls

The Mill Creek Falls are located in Mill Creek Regional Park in the Ellison area of Kelowna east of the airport. A trail system follows along Mill Creek into the falls under the shade of Black Cottonwood trees, according to Tourism Kelowna.

To access the trailhead from Kelowna, follow Highway 97 past the airport, turn right onto Old Vernon Road as it becomes Spencer Road. Parking is on the east side.

Fintry Falls

Located in Fintry Provincial Park on Westside Road between Kelowna and Vernon, Fintry Falls is a favourite.

“It’s a relatively short hike just up from the provincial park down there,” Hill with Hike The Okanagan said. “There is a hidden waterfall behind the official end of the trail , so there is another trail that goes behind the trail and goes to a secluded swimming hole, and beyond that another swimming hole and waterfall.”

The park is located on Fintry Delta road, off Westside road, approximately 34 km north of Kelowna or 49 km south of Vernon on the northwest side of Okanagan Lake, according to BC Parks.

Hardy Falls

Hardy Falls is located two kilometres south of Peachland on Highway 97 across from Antler’s Beach. Visitors can take a turn onto Hardy Road and follow up one block to find the trailhead, and the walk to the falls is easy and picturesque.

Chase Creek Falls

This waterfall is located east of Kamloops in the Shuswap. To get there, head east along the Trans-Canada Highway for roughly 54 kilometres. Turn left onto Coburn Street from Highway 1 and take a right on Paquette Road to a parking lot where the falls can be viewed.
