Victim identified in 2024 Kamloops motel shooting

A 28-year-old was killed in a Kamloops motel shooting last year and police have chosen to release his name.

On May 31, 2024, Keenan James Robertson was killed at the Trans Canada Motel. At the time, Kamloops RCMP said it was likely a targeted shooting.

“As the Kamloops RCMP Serious Crime Unit work persistently on this file, they are hopeful that by sharing the name of the victim they will be able to further the investigation,” spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier said in a news release, one year after his death.

Police didn’t provide any further details about Robertson or the investigation in the news release.

Officers were called to the shooting just after midnight at 2505 Trans Canada Highway in Valleyview. A forensic team examined a motel room throughout the following day.

Less than a year earlier, Robertson had been charged with aggravated assault following a stabbing at another motel. Weeks later, the Crown dropped the charge.
