Merritt man’s remains discovered in April: RCMP

The suspicious death of a Merritt man remains under investigation after his body was discovered two months ago.

Miguel Mack, 24, was reported missing two years ago and the search came to a close in April when a civilian found his remains, according to BC RCMP.

The BC Coroner’s Service informed the Southeast District Major Crimes Unit sometime later, after he was identified.

Mack’s brother, Elijah Mack-Stirling, announced the discovery on June 2, thanking people who supported the family, shared information and helped in the search. Police confirmed the discovery two days later.

Major crimes investigators took lead of the investigation shortly after Mack was reported missing, finding his disappearance to be suspicious early on.

“The investigation into Miguel Mack’s death continues to remain a priority. There are people out there with direct and indirect knowledge of Miguel Mack’s death and we are asking those individuals to come forward and contact the police,” Staff Sgt. Jason Smart of the major crimes unit said in a news release.

Police said there were multiple large-scale searches in Merritt and the Nicola Valley. Some were conducted by police with dogs and drones, while family and volunteers also searched.

Where his body was discovered or when he was identified isn’t clear.

Anyone with information about the disappearance of Miguel Mack can contact the Southeast District Major Crime Unit information line at 1-877-987-8477.
