Crews on scene of out of control wildfire near Okanagan Falls
Smoke can be seen from a wildfire near Okanagan Falls this afternoon as local and BC Wildfire crews respond.
The wildfire is near Green Lake, on the Green Lake Road side, and it’s 0.7 hectares is size as of 3:30 p.m., June 4, according to a press release from the Regional District of Okanagan-Similkameen Emergency Operations Centre.
Cassidy Martin from the Kamloops Fire Centre said that officials suspect it was human caused and so far it appears the fire has a slow spread rate.
“BC Wildfire is assisting the Okanagan Falls Fire Department with three initial attack crews and a response officer,” she said. “A smouldering ground fire with some visible open flame, but overall a small rate of spread.”
Air tankers were also deployed but Martin said they’ve done their job and are out of the area.
The RDOS Emergency Response Centre wants people to avoid the area until further notice.
