Ontario sports coach charged with sexual assault of young person

A 58-year-old sports coach from Markham, Ont., is facing sexual assault charges after numerous alleged assaults over nearly a decade.

York Regional Police say they began investigating last month when a person reported being sexually assaulted several times between 2014 and 2015.

Police say the alleged assaults began when the victim was under 16 years old.

The suspect was arrested and charged with sexual assault, sexual interference and sexual exploitation.

Police say the accused worked as a coach for youth basketball, tennis and volleyball teams in Markham.

They believe there may be other victims and they are asking anyone with information to contact them.
