Vernon cop stops for fuel, spots break and enter scene

A Vernon RCMP officer stopped for gas on the weekend and just happened to come across the scene of a break and enter.

The officer noticed damage to the front door of the closed business in the 3300 block of 48 Avenue in Vernon and discovered it had been broken into around 1:45 a.m. yesterday, Oct. 4.

Unknown suspects got into the business through the front doors, removing the automated teller machine from the outlet.

The suspects left in a dark coloured Ford truck with stolen license plates. The truck could be a Ford F-350 with a unique decal in the rear window.

A vehicle stolen from a nearby business was recovered at the scene, Vernon RCMP spokesperson Const. Chris Terleski said in a press release issued this afternoon.

The business’s ATM has yet to be recovered.

Anyone with information about this incident is asked to contact Const. Helgerson at the North Okanagan RCMP non-emergency number, 250-545-7171, or remain anonymous by calling Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477, or leaving a tip at www.crimestoppers.com.
