Operation Red Nose cancels services for 2020 due to COVID-19

A holiday fixture in Kamloops that provides safe rides home for those who may have had a little too much to drink, is suspending its service this season.

Operation Red Nose Kamloops announced on its Facebook page this morning, Oct. 7, it has cancelled the safe ride services for the 2020 holiday season.

Operation Red Nose provides a safe ride home service to motorists who have consumed alcohol or who don't feel fit to drive. The service is provided entirely by volunteers and is a safe way of getting home in one's own vehicle without getting behind the wheel.

The organization made the decision the cancel its service this holiday season "after careful consideration of the current public health situation and its logistical impacts on the service,” according to the post.

However, they will still run the Operation Red Nose campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of impaired driving.

The details of the campaign will be announced in November.
