Police arrest man following Osoyoos shooting
Osoyoos RCMP have a man in custody following a shooting in the community over the weekend.
Osoyoos RCMP responded to reports of a shooting in the 8,000 block of 70 Avenue on Oct. 11 around 1:26 a.m.
Assisted by Oliver RCMP, police were told the 24-year-old shooter and the victim, a 21-year-old man, both from Osoyoos, had been involved in an ongoing dispute when the suspect went to the victim’s home and shot him.
The suspect fled on foot while the victim was taken to hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
“Violent crime is rare in Osoyoos. It is that rarity that had people talking and over the weekend police received several tips from the public, leading to the safe arrest of the suspect early Oct. 13 after he returned to his residence,” police spokesperson Sgt. Jason Bayda said in a press release issued today, Oct. 13.
The man remains in custody prior to a scheduled court appearance tomorrow, Oct. 14.
