iN VIDEO: Woman saves choking baby in Kelowna

Every parent’s worst nightmare came to pass in a park last week in Kelowna when a baby started choking, but a woman was standing by and she knew what to do.

Rui Deng and her husband Andy Wang were in DeHart Community Park with their kids when they heard a woman crying out for help around 5:20 p.m. on June 27.

When the couple approached the cries for help they realized there was a baby choking, and two people were already trying to help.

Deng was a doctor in China for 13 years before she came to Canada. She realized that the baby’s arms and legs were limp, and their eyes were rolled back due to oxygen deprivation.

She went into action and did the Heimlich maneuver which quickly cleared the baby’s airway and they were breathing again.

Wang said it was an intense, scary situation, but Deng knew what to do.
