Cops investigate spiked drinks at Kamloops bars

Kamloops RCMP says four people came forward after their drinks were tampered with at Kamloops bars in a four-day span.

Both males and females came forward, some employees and some patrons, believing they were unknowingly drugged at the downtown bars in June, according to a Kamloops RCMP news release.

One said they met an unknown man shortly before noticing their drink had an unusual taste and their cognitive alertness declined, police said.

“The Kamloops RCMP has obtained surveillance footage and is actively working to identify additional victims and any persons of interest. Investigators are also in the process of speaking with witnesses and reviewing further evidence,” spokesperson Cpl. Dana Napier said in the release.

Police said the tamperings happened on multiple days between June 24 and 28, but no other crimes were reported after the victims were drugged. It’s not clear where they occurred, but police did say it wasn’t isolated to one bar.

Police did remind the public, however, to take precautions:

• Never leave drinks unattended
• Do not accept drinks from strangers
• Stay with trusted friends and look out for one another
• Seek immediate medical attention if you suspect you’ve been drugged
• Report any suspicious activity to police
