Reports: Canadian international Olivia Smith set for world-record transfer

Canadian international striker Olivia Smith is reportedly making a world-record one-million-pound ($1.86 million) transfer to Arsenal from Liverpool.

The Guardian, BBC and other outlets reported that the transfer fee exceeds the record 900,000 pounds Chelsea paid to acquire U.S. international defender Naomi Girma from the NWSL San Diego Wave in January.

The deal for the 20-year-old from Whitby, Ont., is subject to medical and personal terms being agreed.

Smith joined Liverpool from Portuguese side Sporting last summer and scored seven times in 20 Women’s Super League appearances in her debut season.

She was voted Liverpool FC Women’s 2024-25 Player of the Season.

Smith has three goals and three assists in 18 senior appearances for Canada.
