Snow expected in the Okanagan and Kamloops this week

Kamloops and Okanagan residents can expect a taste of winter this weekend as a modified arctic front is expected to move into the region.

Environment Canada meteorologist Doug Lundquist says the arctic air currently sitting over the prairie provinces is expected to make a brief incursion into the B.C. interior, starting Friday.

“We could see snow down to the valley bottoms on Friday night. There could be frost before that, but most certainly it looks like Friday into Saturday will dip below freezing before things warm up next week,” he says.

Lundquist says the front won’t be sticking around but it’s “timed perfectly for the weekend.”

“Now is a good time to think about harvesting what’s left in the garden, and making sure your vehicle is winterized,” Lundquist says.

“This weekend’s snow won’t last, but it’s a good reminder to get these things done before things get worse in November,” he says.

Mountain passes in and out of the Thompson Okanagan are mostly wet today, with snow still falling on the Rogers Pass.

It’s warm enough for rain to be falling on the Hope- Princeton and Coquihalla Highways this morning.

“The high terrain is basically into winter already, so it’s a good idea to look at conditions on a daily basis to make sure things are looking OK before starting out. It looks like we may get a break in the weather for the next two or three days, but look for snow on the ground by Saturday morning in Kamloops and the Okanagan,” Lundquist says.
