One dead in Fraser Canyon head-on collision
Police are looking for witnesses and dashcam footage of a fatal accident involving three vehicles in a Fraser Canyon collision on Sunday.
BC Highway Patrol said two vehicles collided head-on just north of Boston Bar, damaging a third in the aftermath around 4 p.m., July 13.
An unnamed 62-year-old Lytton man died. He was the lone occupant of a red Ford Explorer on Highway 1, which hit a red Nissan Qashqai directly before damaging a black Nissan Pathfinder, according to a BC Highway Patrol news release.
The news release included a photo of the crash scene, which showed only the heavily-damaged Nissan Qashqai and police vehicles blocking traffic in the background on an undivided stretch of the Trans Canada Highway.
It’s not clear what led to the crash, but the four other people involved escaped with minor injuries or none at all, according to police.
“Anyone who may have seen this collision, or who saw these vehicles in the minutes before the crash, is encouraged to call police,” spokesperson Cpl. Michael McLaughlin said in the news release. “We also ask that all drivers use extra caution on undivided highways. Keep your full attention on the road, stay sober, and keep your speed down. We want to avoid more of these tragedies.”
Anyone with information about the collision can contact BC Highway Patrol at 604-702-4039.
