RCMP catch thief after series of crimes in Kelowna

Kelowna RCMP have a man in custody following a crime spree in the city.

Police attended a residence in the 2000 block of Richter Street on Oct. 11 just before 4 p.m. where they were advised of a break-in, according to an RCMP media release issued today, Oct. 22. Personal items and keys were taken, and the keys were used to steal a grey 2020 Toyota RAV4.

Employees working at a coffee shop in the 2900 block of Pandosy Street came to work on Oct. 13 just after 8 a.m. to discover the business had been broken into and a safe with an undisclosed amount of money taken. RCMP do not identify the coffee shop.

RCMP located the stolen Rav 4 in an alley in downtown Kelowna around 1 p.m. The driver was arrested without further incident.

"Further investigation led our officers to be able to link the suspect to all three of these incidents. He was held in custody and brought before the court and was remanded," Cpl. Guillaume Tanguay of the Kelowna RCMP Target Team said in the release.

"These offences are very serious in nature and have an impact on businesses and victims. The Kelowna RCMP will work tirelessly to solve these investigations in order that they receive closure and that subjects responsible be brought to justice,” Tanguay said.

Police continue to investigate.
