iN PHOTOS: Five affordable petting zoos to visit in Kamloops, Okanagan

For families looking for something to add to their summer bucket lists, there are several petting zoos scattered throughout the Kamloops area and Okanagan to visit.

Some are even free or pretty close to it.

At Little Farmers Petting Zoo in Kamloops families can view and feed goats, exotic birds, emus and pigs for the cost of a quarter or loonie at food vending machines around the park perimeter. On sight is a vending kiosk to buy snacks and drinks.

Located at 707 Franklin Road beside Westsyde Centennial Park, the zoo is open during the day, every day of the week.

The grounds at the Historic O’Keefe Ranch in Vernon are open for families to walk around, visit the chickens, dogs and goats living there, and view the historic buildings all for the cost of a donation. 

Located at 9380 Highway 97, the buildings on the ranch are open from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. every weekend until the end of August, and the gates are open for self-guided visits during weekdays.

Davison Orchards in Vernon has a petting zoo with goats, sheep, chickens, potbellied pigs, a donkey and more that kids can enjoy free of charge, as well as a one acre play area to run around in.

Also onsite is a gift shop, fresh produce market and café to enjoy, along with the option of taking an orchard tour.

Located at 3111 Davison Road, the farm is open daily from 9 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.

Families can visit Don-O-Ray Farm Adventure in Kelowna for less than $10 per person for close-up interactions with goats, a pony, soft bunnies and chickens. Also onsite is a hedge maze, play area, archery area, miniature golf and a fresh produce market.

Located at 3443 Benvoulin Road, the farm is open from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. every day spring, summer and fall.

At GottaGoat Farm in Penticton it costs $10 per person and is free of charge for children ages 3 and under to interact with goats and hear stories about them. There are miniature breeds, full-size breeds and fainting goats to pet and learn about.

Located at 2099 Green Mountain Road, the farm is open for drop-in visits from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and for scheduled visits from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Wednesday.
