$2,000 donated to SPCA in Snowbirds Capt. Jennifer Casey’s name

The Government of Nova Scotia is donating $2,000 to the SPCA in the name of a Canadian Forces Snowbirds member who died after a plane crashed in a Kamloops neighbourhood back in May.

The Department Of Communities, Culture And Heritage approved the donation to honour Capt. Jennifer Casey, a Nova Scotia resident, Oct. 23, according to a post on the Canadian Forces Snowbirds Facebook page. Premier Stephen McNeil agreed to the request made by Snowbirds member Cpl. Matt MacKenzie.

Casey, from Nova Scotia, was the Snowbirds public affairs officer who died shortly after takeoff May 17, when the Snowbird plane she was in crashed in Kamloops.

The jets were flying across Canada at the time as part of Operation INSPIRATION to salute Canadians doing their part to curb the spread of COVID-19.

The Kamloops council is currently looking to build a permanent memorial for Casey, and residents in the area rallied to show their support for the Snowbirds and Casey for months following the crash.
