Halloween weather won’t be a horror in Kamloops or the Okanagan

It’s starting to look like the least scary thing about this year’s Halloween will be the weather in Kamloops and the Okanagan.

Environment Canada Meteorologist Doug Lundquist says last weekend's frightful weather will be well behind us by Oct. 31.

The heavy snow that fell throughout Kamloops and the Okanagan last Friday is still melting as temperatures slowly recover from an arctic front that blanketed the region on the weekend, but that snow shouldn’t be more than a memory with highs nearing the double-digits by next Saturday.

“By Wednesday this week we are going to be above average for daily highs. There’s going to be sprinkles here and there for the rest of the week, but with a westerly flow pattern on the way, it means we’re going to be quite a bit better,” Lundquist says.

Saturday’s forecast presently calls for mostly cloudy skies with a few sprinkles scattered around.

“I don’t think there will be much rain, but mostly cloudy with a few clear breaks to provide some opportunities to see the rare Halloween full blue moon on Oct. 31,” he says.

It’s expected to be warmer than normal for Saturday evening as well, with temperatures higher than average by a couple of degrees or so.

Saturday's forecast high for Kamloops is 11 Celsius, 10 C for Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton. That's compared to a normal high of 9 C in Kamloops and 7 C in Vernon, Kelowna and Penticton.

“In a few words, mainly cloudy and warm for the entire region,” Lundquist says.
