iN VIDEO: Fire destroys trailer in North Okanagan mobile home park
A trailer was destroyed in a blaze at a North Okanagan mobile home park last night, but a quick response from firefighters prevented the flames from spreading and destroying more homes.
The fire destroyed one trailer at the Eagle Rock Mobile Home Park in Spallumcheen yesterday, Oct. 27, just off Highway 97A across from Tolko.
Trailer park resident Alina McDougall lives four trailers down from the fire.
"Our dog wouldn't stop barking, then my boyfriend looked and saw the fire," McDougall said. "I was ready to get the heck out."
Luckily, McDougall said firefighters arrived within minutes and quickly extinguished the blaze.
"They did a really good job," she said.
Armstrong Spallumcheen Fire Department fire chief Ian Cummings said crews were at the fire hall and finishing up their evening practice when the call came in shortly before 9 p.m. Cummings said this greatly minimized their response time.
"It was gone before we got there," Cummings said. "Trailers go up quick."
Cummings said 15 firefighters and five trucks managed to prevent the fire from spreading and luckily only two other trailers saw minor damage.
Cummings said the trailer's occupants managed to get out and no one was injured in the blaze. The fire chief said it was too early to know what caused the fire, but there was no indication it was suspicious.
