Jets special teams ace Kris Boyd out for season with shoulder injury after getting hurt in practice

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — The New York Jets placed cornerback and special teams standout Kris Boyd on the season-ending injured reserve list on Monday with a shoulder injury.

Boyd, who signed with the Jets as a free agent in March, was hurt during the team’s training camp practice on Aug. 2. He was carted from the field into the team’s facility after trainers checked out his left shoulder.

Boyd has been a special teams standout during his first six NFL seasons, including most of the past two with Houston. He made headlines during the Texans’ divisional playoff loss to the Kansas City Chiefs when he celebrated a forced fumble on a kickoff by ripping off his helmet and nearly shoving his special teams coach to the ground.

Boyd was a seventh-round pick of Minnesota in 2019 out of Texas. He played four seasons with the Vikings before joining the Arizona Cardinals in 2023 and then signing with Houston’s practice squad later that season.
