VERNON – It’s not an emergency call you get often in the valley, especially on Okanagan Lake.
Fire fighters and conservation officers rescued a deer from the ice on the Vernon arm Okanagan Lake Sunday afternoon.
It’s been cold enough over the last couple of weeks to freeze the water close to the shore. But the ice is dangerously thin.
The deer couldn’t walk on the slippery surface and the humans couldn't safely walk out to grab it.
Crews ended up using a kayak to navigate the thin ice and ropes to snare the deer.
They managed to get the animal to shore safely on the Tronson Road side of the lake.
