Vancouver International Film Festival to open with Linklater’s ‘Nouvelle Vague,’ feature Canadian premieres of Baumbach, Jarmusch films
Richard Linklater’s film-about-a-film “Nouvelle Vague” will open the Vancouver International Film Festival in October.
The dramatization of the making of Jean-Luc Godard’s “Breathless” is among the roughly 170 feature films VIFF announced would be part of its lineup on Wednesday.
The schedule also includes the Canadian premieres of Noah Baumbach’s comedy-drama “Jay Kelly,” which stars George Clooney and Adam Sandler, and “Father Mother Sister Brother” directed by Jim Jarmusch and starring Cate Blanchett and Adam Driver.
The schedule also features a special spotlight on Korean films, including Park Joon-ho’s portrait of South Korea’s gay community “3670.”
VIFF will close with a screening of the German film “Köln 75,” which chronicles the true story of a teenage music promoter’s efforts to organize a concert that went on to become the best-selling solo jazz recording of all time.
VIFF will run from Oct. 2 to 12.
