Kamloops volunteer crew rescues stranded paddleboarders

Two stranded paddleboarders were safely pulled to shore by Kamloops rescue crews Wednesday afternoon.

Police called Kamloops Search and Rescue to the scene on the North Thompson River and 13 volunteers responded to help the women stranded on a gravel bar on Aug. 26, according to the search and rescue organization.

They responded around 4 p.m. and one volunteer, already nearby, met the women first using his kayak. The paddleboarders did manage to paddle to the western riverbank, but it was the rescue crew above that helped them reach safety, according to Kamloops Search and Rescue.

The kayaker stayed with the paddleboarders until the crew above sent down a rope and ferried all of them up to safety in the kayak around 6 p.m.

Paramedics were at the scene and assessed the two paddleboarders, finding no one was injured, according to Kamloops Search and Rescue.
