Man arrested for suspected arson in fire near Penticton homes

One man was arrested after a fire in an urban green belt was sparked in a Penticton neighbourhood this week.

Penticton RCMP said local bylaw officers spotted the fire, which was burning in a green space between Ridgedale Avenue and Penticton Avenue around 9:20 a.m., Aug. 25.

Firefighters were quick to extinguish the flames and there was no “significant” property damage and no injuries, according to a Penticton RCMP news release.

But police believe the fire was intentionally set, and they arrested a man nearby that morning.

The man hasn’t been charged and the investigation is ongoing.

Anyone with information can contact Penticton RCMP at 250-492-4300.
