Several people injured when boat lands on another on B.C.’s Okanagan Lake: police
KELOWNA — Several people have been injured in a boat crash that resulted in one vessel being lodged on top of another on Okanagan Lake near Kelowna, B.C.
BC Emergency Health Services spokesperson Bowen Osoko says three injured people were taken to hospital in stable condition, while four others went to hospital but did not appear to be hurt.
West Kelowna RCMP says several passengers on one of the boats sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
Police say they’ve confirmed impairment and weather conditions were not factors in the collision and the matter remains under investigation.
It happened at approximately 8:40 p.m. on Wednesday, about 500 metres south of the William R. Bennett Bridge, which connects downtown Kelowna with West Kelowna.
A statement from Central Okanagan Search and Rescue says it was initially unknown if any people were in the water but police were able to determine that everyone was accounted for.
The statement says the Kelowna Fire Department removed the damaged vessels from the area.
A photo shared by Central Okanagan Search and Rescue shows one boat perched at an angle on top of another with its starboard side barely above water.
